History of Sri Lankan Gems
Sri Lanka was known as a "Rathnadeepa" which means gem island.King Solomon brought great ruby for Queen of Sheba from Ceylon(Sri Lanka).Marco Polo(writter in 12th century) wrote that the Ceylon had the best Sapphires, Topazes and other gems in the world.In 2nd century Astronomer wrote that Beryl and Sapphire were the mainstay of Ceylon gem industry.
